As we know, a lot of shifts are happening. My friend, Paul, and I were praying for Uganda and the United States the other day, and it was a wonderful place of seeing His plans for these nations. During our conversation, we also remembered a time when we ministered in Fort Portal, Uganda together along with a small team. The trip to Fort Portal from Kampala should only take about 4.5 hours, but we encountered car trouble and that trip took over 12 hours … because we had to drive the whole way in first gear! When we got to Fort Portal, boy were we exhausted!
This morning I’m seeing how God wants us to shift gears. Imagine if we’re always going through life in first gear, we’re never going to get where He’s going. Shifting to the next gear keeps us aligned with God and moves us forward.
I’m also being reminded of a word He gave me some years ago. I woke up one morning to hear Him say, “You’re crossing the equator. And you’ll know you’ve crossed over because things will start moving differently.”
All of our Uganda friends know this phenomenon, but let me explain it for the rest of us.
Uganda, itself, is on the equator and there is a place where you can go to see where the equator is marked. What they’ll do there is take a small tin basin, bring it to one side of the equator line, and fill it with water. They’ll drop a flower in it so you can see how the water travels, and then drain it. The flower circles with the water and empties out.
Then, they take the basin to the other side of the equator line, and this is where the precision of God is absolutely amazing. The flower and the water spiral in the *opposite* direction. Just a few feet away! You may know that toilets in Australia drain in the opposite direction than they do in America, but to see it so precisely is incredible.
Finally, they put the basin on the equator line itself, and it doesn’t even spin. The flower and water shoot straight down. Amazing.
God is saying that it’s time to cross the equator line, and we can be assured that when we do, we’ll find that things move very differently on the other side. In fact, with all that has been happening in our world, we’ll find that things move in the opposite direction – in a godly way – when we make that move.
Our question to ask is, “Lord, what is my part in all this? How do you want me to move? How *can* I move differently than before?” It will take a willing heart, but the rewards are great.
In the coming days, I would like to address what we can do to begin moving differently. Our focus will be more on practical measures we can apply in our lives. A foundation has been set. We know we’re entering a new place. Now it’s time to shift gears and get in line with what God is doing. Here we go!
