The USS Shangri-La

Here’s a neat bit of history, while I was at the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. My dad was in the Navy, on a carrier back in the 50s, and there were a bunch of aircraft carrier models at the museum.

I found the one he was on! It was the Shangri-La, and showcased as the biggest carrier there. They even had one of its jets. It was fun getting to share history with him. He sent over a picture of the ship while they were docked in Hong Kong, and a portion of his discharge papers.

He was also on the Hancock, before getting to the Shangri-La, but we didn’t find that one. It was fun having a treasure hunt, though!

So awesome to get to share that experience with him!! 😄🙌🏼✨
