If there’s one thing I’ve learned, God is rarely in a rush. Yes, of course, He can do His suddenlies, but there’s often even a process before that point that’s integral.
Yesterday I heard Him say “aioli”. Now, this is a message I heard before, and last time I, well, I broke the sauce. So when He said it this time, I knew I HAD to make sure I stay in His timing.
You see, an aioli is a yummy Mediterranean sauce made with garlic and olive oil, and a couple other ingredients. But the tricky part is getting the ingredients to merge. And they don’t do that well. First you have to crush the garlic. And then while you continue to crush it, you pour the olive oil in ever so slowly. I mean, painfully slow. If you’re patient with the process, the ingredients will emulsify together and produce this beautiful sauce. But if you pour the oil too quickly, guess what. The sauce breaks, and once that happens, there’s no rectifying it. You have to scrap the entire batch and start all over again with new ingredients.
Many of us are standing before our Promise Land right now. There has been such a process of walking through the wilderness in the past season, leaning on God, and letting Him deal with giants. But now as we see the new things developing, it’s easy to get ahead of Him and want to dive in. But He’s saying, “Wait for my lead”.
Deuteronomy 7:22 says, “And the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you little by little. You will be unable to destroy them at once, lest the beasts of the field become too numerous for you.”
He was speaking to the Israelites as they stood before their Promise Land. And the key here is there are still “beasts in the land” that need to be dealt with, and if you dive in at once they’ll consume you.
Exodus 23:30 says, “Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land.”
So not only is there a removing of what’s bad, but God is continuing to increase us, to strengthen us. It’s a transitioning handoff.
Friday, in line with all this, He also said “critical mass”. Critical Mass is the point where a process that’s gone little by little, reaches a point of stability and things can move more quickly. That’s where we see God’s suddenlies. But don’t get ahead of Him and apprehend that before it’s time … or else, well, you will break the sauce!
