On this Yom Kippur day of atonement, I believe God wants us to choose Mercy.
This is the day when the high priest would enter the Holy of Holies and bring the sins of the people before Him. As we know, the Holy of Holies was a place of the deep, deep presence of God and included in it was the Ark of the Covenant.
Last night in praying with some friends, God reminded me of a message I heard, speaking of us as arks of the covenant. When you think about it, we are called to carry the presence of God. And better yet, we’re able to do that when we are aligned with God’s Mercy.
On the Ark was the Mercy Seat, pointing to the throne of God. In life, the fruit we produce is dependent upon whose throne we’ve aligned ourselves with. Choosing Mercy keeps us in that right alignment.
Ephesians 2:4-6 says, “But God who is rich in mercy because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
God’s Mercy made us ALIVE. We were dead in sin – void of Mercy – and God’s Mercy rose us from the dead.
We were poor and penniless – void of Heaven’s currency, Mercy – so Jesus paid the greatest price of Mercy possible, that we would be alive and rich in Mercy, too.
Lord, we thank you for the Mercy you have given us, and the Mercy we now have, that we can share it with a hurting world. Please help us do that for You, and to give You all the glory. Amen
